With Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026 days away, the Pokémon GO team has shared one last round of updates: your buddy's background now shows on your Trainer profile, Dynamax Battles get private lobbies, Global ticket holders pick a Steel or Dragon path, and there are new avatar items, a Pokémon HOME change and Adventure Effects in raid lobbies.

Backgrounds on your Trainer profile

Starting with GO Wild Area 2026, you and your friends can see your buddy Pokémon's Location Background or Special Background on your Trainer profile. Backgrounds unlock for display on a rolling basis:

  • November 6, 2026, 10:00 a.m. local time - the GO Wild Area 2026 Location Backgrounds for Sendai and Mexico City.
  • November 9, 2026, 10:00 a.m. local time - the GO Wild Area 2026 Special Background and all previously released Location Backgrounds.

This goes by local time on both sides: your friends will not see your buddy's background until it is 10:00 a.m. in their time zone. More Special Backgrounds will become available to display later.

Private Dynamax Battle lobbies

When you enter a Dynamax Battle lobby you now get two options: Battle to be matched with other players automatically, or Private Group to join an existing group. A private group asks for a group code, so you can make sure you end up with your own friends.

Steel Scholar or Dragon Defender?

During Pokémon GO Wild Area: Global, ticket holders get a branched Special Research story in which you choose to research either Steel- or Dragon-type Pokémon. It becomes available on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The path you pick decides your medal and your bonus:

  • Steel Scholar (Steel path): 1 extra Candy XL (Trainers level 31+) and 1,000 extra Stardust for catching Steel-type mighty Pokémon.
  • Dragon Defender (Dragon path): 1 extra Candy XL (Trainers level 31+) and 1,000 extra Stardust for catching Dragon-type mighty Pokémon.

The bonus switches on as soon as you claim the medal and runs until the end of the Global event on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. local time.

Going to Sendai or Mexico City?

Ticket holders at the real-world events in Sendai and Mexico City can collect both medals as part of their event Special Research, and those bonuses also last until the end of the Global event.

New avatar items

  • GO Wild Area 2026 Tee (Purple) - free, a reward in GO Pass: Into the Wild.
  • Duraludon Pants - a reward in the paid GO Pass Deluxe: Into the Wild.

Both passes run from Monday, November 9, 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, November 15, 6:00 p.m. local time. You can claim the avatar items and every other pass reward until Tuesday, November 17, 11:59 p.m. local time.

Three items go on sale in the in-game shop during the event and stay available after it ends: the Duraludon Helmet, the Gigantamax Duraludon Backpack and the Fighting-Type Jacket.

Finally, ticket holders who complete their event Special Research, at the real-world events or at the Global event, receive an all-new avatar pose.

GO Safari Ball Pokémon can go to Pokémon HOME

Pokémon caught in a GO Safari Ball can now be sent to Pokémon HOME. There, the GO Safari Ball shows up as a Strange Ball.

Adventure Effects in raid and Max Battle lobbies

Starting with the Into the Wild event, you can activate select Adventure Effects while you are in the lobby for a raid or Max Battle. The example the team gives: switch on Zacian's Behemoth Blade or Zamazenta's Behemoth Bash before a Max Battle to give your group an edge. Ticket holders at the Sendai and Mexico City events get early access to this feature.

Heading to Sendai or Mexico City?

The event maps are already online, so you can plan your visit ahead of time:

Add-ons are still on sale: extra event bonuses, additional days of gameplay and merchandise pre-orders. Ticket add-ons are active from Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8, 2026. Details on the official GO Wild Area site.
