As Pokémon GO celebrates 10 years, the team has shared a summary of recent gameplay and quality-of-life changes that have already rolled out: Zygarde Cells now come as a Route reward, the Compass and Weather icons are one, transferring a 100% (maxed-out stats) Pokémon asks for confirmation, the map is less crowded, and Community Ambassador meetups can be checked in to from the map.

Zygarde Cells on Routes

Zygarde Cells discovered on a Route are now received as a reward when you complete the Route — you no longer need to collect them from the map.

The probability of finding Zygarde Cells stays the same, so you still may not find them on every Route.

One icon for Compass and Weather

The Compass and Weather icons have been combined into a single icon that adjusts to what you are doing. The Compass icon shows while you rotate or zoom your view; the Weather icon shows at all other times.

  • Tapping the Weather icon shows the active weather conditions and boosts.
  • Tapping the Compass icon, while it is visible, toggles the viewing direction when you are on the map.

Warning before you transfer a 100% Pokémon

You now get a confirmation prompt before transferring any Pokémon with maxed-out stats. During a bulk transfer the warning also shows the exact number of 100% Pokémon you have selected.

A less crowded Map View

The spacing in Map View has been improved to reduce overlap between wild Pokémon encounters, Gyms, Power Spots and PokéStops, making it easier to tap a specific encounter.

Checking in to Community Ambassador meetups

You can now check in to a meetup straight from the in-game map or from a web browser:

  1. Open the in-game map from the Nearby menu.
  2. Find the purple Meetup pin on the map.
  3. Verify that the event is listed as “Hosted by a Community Ambassador”.
  4. Tap Check In.
Check-in opens early

Check-in opens 15 minutes before the meetup is scheduled to start.
