Starting with GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale, any Pokémon that can reach Super Max Level gets an extra Charged Attack while Mega Evolved — and Mega Evolution is getting two more firsts: a first appearance in the Pokémon GO Championship Series, and (coming soon, no date yet) a temporary CP cut so Mega's can enter Great League and Ultra League.
The new mechanic
Any Pokémon capable of reaching Super Max Level now unlocks an extra Charged Attack for as long as it is Mega Evolved. The power of that attack scales with the Pokémon's current Mega Level, and it can be used in the GO Battle League — but not against defending Pokémon in Gym battles.
Unlocking the attack costs Mega Energy and Candy, same as any other Mega upgrade. Two of the new attacks — Mega Mewtwo X's and Mega Mewtwo Y's — also come with an Adventure Effect, and Niantic says those effects stay active even when Mewtwo isn't currently Mega Evolved, once unlocked.
Mega Mewtwo X and Y, debuting during Mega Finale
- Mega Mewtwo X gains Dynamic Punch+. Adventure Effect: increased damage against Mega-Evolved Pokémon in Mega Raids and Super Mega Raids — in a Super Mega Raid it can break two Shields at once instead of one.
- Mega Mewtwo Y gains Future Sight+. Adventure Effect: reveals at the start of an encounter whether that Pokémon will appraise as 3 stars or higher.
Every other Mega getting the upgrade
- Mega Chesnaught gains Seed Bomb+
- Mega Delphox gains Mystical Fire+
- Mega Greninja gains Surf+
- Mega Raichu X gains Volt Tackle+
- Mega Raichu Y gains Zap Cannon+
- Mega Skarmory gains Drill Peck+
- Mega Falinks gains Brick Break+
- Mega Starmie gains Liquidation+
- Mega Victreebel gains Acid Spray+
- Mega Malamar gains Psybeam+
- Mega Dragonite gains Outrage+
Mega-Evolved Pokémon are allowed in the Pokémon GO Championship Series for the first time, starting with the 2026 Pokémon Latin America International Championships. Separately, Niantic says a temporary CP reduction is coming "in the near future" so Mega's can compete in Great League: Mega Edition and Ultra League: Mega Edition — CP only drops for the duration of the battle. No date has been announced yet for that CP change.
