Patterns of the Wild brings a Special Background for Pikachu wearing a batik shirt, along with boosted wild encounters, Incense bonuses, and Timed Research rewards!

The event runs on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time.


Bonuses

Incense will last for two hours.

Increased chance to encounter Pikachu wearing a batik shirt and other event-themed Pokémon while using Incense.

Increased chance to encounter Shiny Pokémon in the wild among featured encounters.

For the first time in Pokémon GO, Trainers can encounter Pikachu wearing a batik shirt, which can also appear with a Special Background.

You may encounter it through wild encounters, Timed Research, and surprise snapshot encounters.

If you're lucky, you may encounter a Shiny one!

Surprise Encounters

Take a snapshot of one of your own Pokémon during the event for a chance at a surprise encounter with Pikachu wearing a batik shirt.

Snapshots of wild Pokémon will not trigger these encounters.

Wild Encounters

The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, with an increased chance of encountering their Shiny variants.

Pikachu wearing a batik shirt may have a Special Background.

Timed Research

Complete Timed Research to encounter Pikachu wearing a batik shirt with a Special Background!

The Timed Research runs from Monday, September 28, at 6:00 a.m. to Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. — a longer window than the main event day. Rewards include encounters with Oddish, Ledyba and Hoppip, 1,000 XP, 1,000 Stardust, and more. All encounters from this Timed Research can be Shiny.

Niantic has not detailed the individual research tasks yet — only the reward pool has been revealed so far.
Collection Challenge

Complete the Collection Challenge by catching Patterns of the Wild–themed Pokémon to receive XP, Stardust, and stickers featuring Pikachu wearing a batik shirt.

Niantic has not revealed which Pokémon are required or the exact XP/Stardust amounts yet.
